This document is a menu overview of the KAL 3840 Automotive Scope / GMM User's Manual. The product has various testing functions, allowing for testing of multiple vehicle components and sensors, and provides multiple instrument setup and data display options.
The SPX KAL 3840 is a combination Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO) and Graphing Multimeter (GMM) designed for troubleshooting automotive electronics. It allows technicians to capture live circuit signatures, store them for analysis, and compare them against known-good waveforms to detect marginal components that standard scan tools or multimeters might miss.
The device features multiple test modes including Scope, GMM, Component Tests, Sensor Tests, Actuator Tests, Electrical Tests, Ignition Tests, and Diesel-specific tests. It supports various sensor types such as ABS, O2, ECT, IAT, Knock, TPS, CMP, VSS, MAF, and MAP sensors, along with actuator testing for injectors, solenoids, and motors.
The COM terminal of this instrument is rated up to 300 V rms above earth ground for safety.
You must use the instrument in a service area that is well ventilated and provides at least four changes of air per hour.
When handling signals higher than 150 V peak, do not electrically activate both CH A and/or CH B terminals AND the USB terminal together at a time.
