MAX6675 is a K-type thermocouple digital converter produced by Maxim Integrated Products. It features cold-end compensation, 12-bit resolution, SPI interface, 0.25 °C resolution and other features.
The MAX6675 is a cold‑junction‑compensated converter that digitizes the signal from a type‑K thermocouple and provides a 12‑bit temperature output over an SPI‑compatible serial interface. It operates from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply and is supplied in an 8‑pin SO package.
Typical applications include industrial appliances, HVAC, and automotive systems. The device includes open‑thermocouple detection, a built‑in ADC, and a digital controller that handles cold‑junction compensation and serial communication with a host microcontroller.
| Resolution | 0.25 °C |
|---|---|
| Temperature range | 0 °C to +1024 °C |
| Operating temperature range | -20 °C to +85 °C |
| Serial clock frequency | up to 4.3 MHz |
| Package | 8‑pin SO |
The MAX6675 provides a temperature resolution of 0.25 °C per LSB.
A complete serial read requires 16 clock cycles; the first bit is a dummy sign bit and bits D14‑D3 contain the temperature data.
Bit D2 goes high when the thermocouple input is open, providing open‑thermocouple detection.
