About this manual

The MAX732 and MAX733 are Maxim step‑up DC‑DC switch‑mode regulators. The MAX732 provides a regulated +12 V output from a 4.0 V‑9.3 V input and up to 200 mA load current, while the MAX733 delivers +15 V from a 4.0 V‑11.0 V input with up to 125 mA. Both devices use a current‑mode PWM controller, feature cycle‑by‑cycle current limiting, over‑current protection, undervoltage lockout and programmable soft‑start.

The datasheet includes electrical characteristics, pin descriptions, typical application circuits, soft‑start timing tables, and guidelines for inductor and output‑filter selection. It also provides ordering information for the 8‑pin DIP and 16‑pin wide‑SO packages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the input voltage range for the MAX732?

The MAX732 operates from 4.0 V to 9.3 V input.

What does the SHDN pin do?

The SHDN pin is active‑low; grounding it shuts down the regulator, while tying it to V+ enables normal operation.

What is the typical efficiency of these regulators?

Typical full‑load efficiency is between 85 % and 92 %.

What is the oscillator frequency used in the MAX732/MAX733?

Both devices use a fixed 170 kHz oscillator.
