The MAX1240/MAX1241 are low-power, 12-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) available in 8-pin packages. The MAX1240 operates with a single +2.7V to +3.6V supply, and the MAX1241 operates with a single +2.7V to +5.25V supply. Both devices feature a 7.5µs successive-approximation ADC, a fast track/hold (1.5µs), an on-chip clock, and a high-speed, 3-wire serial interface. Power consumption is only 37mW (VDD = 3V) at the 73ksps maximum sampling speed. A 2µA shutdown mode reduces power at slower throughput rates. The MAX1240 has an internal 2.5V reference, while the MAX1241 requires an external reference. The MAX1241 accepts signals from 0V to VREF, and the reference input range includes the positive supply rail. An external clock accesses data from the 3-wire interface, which connects directly to standard microcontroller I/O ports. The interface is compatible with SPI™, QSPI™, and MICROWIRE™. Excellent AC characteristics and very low power combined with ease of use and small package size make these converters ideal for remote-sensor and data-acquisition applications, or for other circuits with demanding power consumption and space requirements. The MAX1240/MAX1241 are available in 8-pin DIP and SO packages. Applications include battery-powered systems, portable data logging, isolated data acquisition, and process control instrumentation.

The MAX5946 is a dual hot-plug controller designed for PCI Express™ applications. The device provides hot-plug control for 12V, 3.3V and 3.3V auxiliary supplies of two PCI Express slots. The MAX5946’s logic inputs/outputs allow interfacing directly with the system hot-plug management controller or through an SMBus™ with an external I/O expander. An integrated debounced attention switch and present-detect signals are included to simplify system design. The MAX5946 drives four external n-channel MOSFETs to control the 12V and 3.3V main outputs. The 3.3V auxiliary outputs are controlled through internal 0.3Ω n-channel MOSFETs. Internal charge pumps provide gate drive for the 12V outputs while the gate drive of the 3.3V output is driven by the 12V input supply. The 3.3V auxiliary outputs are completely independent from the main outputs with their own charge pumps. At power-up, the MAX5946 keeps all of the external MOSFETs off until the supplies rise above their respective undervoltage lockout (UVLO) thresholds. The device keeps the internal MOSFETs off only until the auxiliary input supply rises above its UVLO threshold. Upon a turn-on command, the MAX5946 enhances the external and internal MOSFETs slowly with a constant gate current to limit the power-supply inrush current. The MAX5946 actively limits the current of all outputs at all times and shuts down if an overcurrent condition persists for longer than a programmable overcurrent timeout. Thermal-

The MAX3869 is a complete, single +3.3V laser driver for SDH/SONET applications up to 2.5Gbps. The device accepts differential PECL data and clock inputs and provides bias and modulation currents for driving a laser. A synchronizing input latch can be used (if a clock signal is available) to reduce jitter. An automatic power control (APC) feedback loop is incorporated to maintain a constant average optical power over temperature and lifetime. The wide modulation current range of 5mA to 60mA and bias current of 1mA to 100mA are easy to program, making this product ideal for use in various SDH/SONET applications. The MAX3869 also provides enable control, two current monitors that are directly proportional to the laser bias and modulation currents, and a failure-monitor output to indicate when the APC loop is unable to maintain the average optical power. The MAX3869 is available in 32-pin TQFP and small 32-pin QFN packages as well as dice.

MAX9921 is a hall-effect sensor interface with diagnostic and protection features that interfaces two 2-wire hall-effect sensors to a low-voltage micro-processor (µP). The device supplies and monitors the current drawn by two hall-effect sensors, filters the sensed current level, and outputs the corresponding logic level. The MAX9921 includes input diagnostics and fault protection features that allow the device to determine fault conditions such as open inputs, inputs shorted to the battery, and inputs shorted to ground. If the MAX9921 detects any of these conditions at either IN1 or IN2, the device shuts off the current to the corresponding input. The MAX9921 protects the hall sensors from supply transients up to 60V at the BAT supply. Normal operating supply voltage ranges from 6V to 18V. If the battery voltage is out of range, the MAX9921 shuts off the current to the hall sensors. The MAX9921 provides an 80µs blanking time following hall sensor power-up or restart. The open-drain logic outputs are compatible with logic levels up to 5.5V. The MAX9921 is available in a small 10-pin µMAX® package and is specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range.

The MAX9924–MAX9927 variable reluctance (VR or mag- netic coil) sensor interface devices are ideal for position and speed sensing for automotive crankshafts, camshafts, transmission shafts, etc.

The MAX9621 is a dual-wire Hall-effect sensor interface with analog and digital outputs that can interface two 2-wire Hall-effect sensors to low-voltage microprocessors (FP) through a digital output for Hall-effect switches or an analog output for linear information or both.

The MAX3370/MAX3371 logic-level translators are ideal for applications interfacing low-voltage devices to other logic levels. Externally applied voltages set the logic levels of the MAX3370/MAX3371. The devices accept VCC from +2.5V to +5.5V and VL from +1.6V to +5.5V, allowing data transfer between low-voltage ASICs and higher voltage devices. The MAX3371 features a shut- down mode that reduces supply current to < 1µA and puts the I/O pins in a high-impedance state. The MAX3370/MAX3371 are bidirectional level shifters, allowing data transfer from the VCC side to the VL side and from the VL side to the VCC side. Both devices operate at speeds up to 2Mbps with an active driver and up to 500kbps with an open-drain driver. The MAX3370/MAX3371 are available in space-saving µDFN (1mm x 1.5mm) and SC70 packages.
