MAX1036-MAX1039 is a low-power 8-bit multichannel analog-to-digital converter with internal track/hold (T/H), voltage reference, clock, and an I2C-compatible 2-wire serial interface. These devices operate from a single supply and require only 350µA at the maximum sampling rate of 188ksps. Auto-Shutdown™ powers down the devices between conver- sions reducing supply current to less than 1µA at low throughput rates. The MAX1036/MAX1037 have four ana- log input channels each, while the MAX1038/MAX1039 have twelve analog input channels. The analog inputs are software configurable for unipolar or bipolar and single- ended or pseudo-differential operation. The full-scale analog input range is determined by the internal reference or by an externally applied reference voltage ranging from 1V to VDD. The MAX1037/ MAX1039 feature a 2.048V internal reference and the MAX1036/MAX1038 feature a 4.096V internal reference. The MAX1036/MAX1037 are available in 8-pin SOT23 packages. The MAX1038/MAX1039 are available in 16- pin QSOP packages. The MAX1036–MAX1039 are guar- anteed over the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). The MAX19516 is a 10-bit, dual-channel, 100Msps ADC from ADI that operates from a 2.5V to 3.3V AVDD supply and accepts a wide 0.4V to 1.4V input common-mode voltage range. It supports DC-coupled inputs and can be used in a variety of RF, IF, and baseband front-end applications. The device has a typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance of 60dBFS and a typical spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 82dBc at fIN = 70MHz and fCLK = 100MHz.

The MAX1776 high-efficiency step-down converter provides an adjustable output voltage from 1.25V to VIN from supply voltages as high as 24V. An internal current-limited 0.4Ω MOSFET delivers load currents up to 600mA. Operation to 100% duty cycle minimizes dropout voltage (240mV at 600mA). The MAX1776 has a low 15µA quiescent current to improve light-load efficiency and conserve battery life. The device draws only 3µA while in shutdown. High switching frequencies (up to 200kHz) allow the use of tiny surface-mount inductors and output capacitors. The MAX1776 is available in an 8-pin µMAX package, which uses half the space of an 8-pin SO. For increased output drive capability, use the MAX1626/MAX1627 step-down controllers, which drive an external P-channel MOSFET to deliver up to 20W.

The MAX9729 is a stereo DirectDrive™ headphone amplifier that features bass boost, volume control, an input mux, and an I2C/SMBus™-compatible serial interface. This makes the MAX9729 ideal for portable audio applica- tions where space is at a premium and performance is essential. The MAX9729 operates from a single 1.8V to 3.6V, and uses Maxim’s patented† DirectDrive architec- ture, eliminating the need for large DC-blocking capaci- tors. The headphone amplifiers deliver 52mW into a 32Ω load, feature low 0.03% THD+N, and high 90dB PSRR. Maxim’s industry-leading click-and-pop sup- pression circuitry reduces audible transients during power and shutdown cycles. The BassMax feature boosts the bass response of the amplifier, improving audio reproduction for low-end headphones. The integrated volume control features 32 discrete volume levels along with a ramping function to ensure smooth transitions during shutdown cycles and input selection. The MAX9729’s eight programmable maximum gain settings allow for a wide range of input signal levels. A 3:1 multiplexer/mixer allows the selection and summation of multiple stereo input signal sources. The MAX9729 also includes a dedicated BEEP input with independent attenuation control. BassMax, volume control, gain settings, and input selection are controlled using the I2C/SMBus-compatible serial interface. DS3234 is a low-cost, extremely accurate SPI™ bus real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature- compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The DS3234 incorporates a precision, temperature-compen- sated voltage reference and comparator circuit to moni- tor VCC. When VCC drops below the power-fail voltage (VPF), the device asserts the RST output and also dis- ables read and write access to the part when VCC drops below both VPF and VBAT. The RST pin is monitored as a pushbutton input for generating a reset externally. The device switches to the backup supply input and main- tains accurate timekeeping when main power to the device is interrupted. The integration of the crystal res- onator enhances the long-term accuracy of the device as well as reduces the piece-part count in a manufactur- ing line. The DS3234 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges, and is offered in an industry-standard 300-mil, 20-pin SO package. The DS3234 also integrates 256 bytes of battery-backed SRAM. In the event of main power loss, the contents of the memory are maintained by the power source con- nected to the VBAT pin. The RTC maintains seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The date at the end of the month is automatically adjust- ed for months with fewer than 31 days, including correc- tions for leap year. The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12-hour format with AM/PM indicator. Two programmable time-of-day inputs allow setting alarms and timers.

MAX17005/MAX17006/MAX17015 are high-frequency multichemistry battery chargers. These circuits feature a new high-frequency current-mode architecture that significantly reduces component size and cost*. The charger uses a high-side MOSFET with n-channel synchronous rectifier. Widely adjustable charge current, charge voltage, and input current limit simplify the construction of highly accurate and efficient chargers. The charge voltage and charge current are set with analog control inputs. The charge current setting can also be adjusted with a PWM input. High-accuracy current-sense amplifiers provide fast cycle-by-cycle current-mode control to protect against short circuits to the battery and respond quickly to system load transients. In addition, the charger provides a high-accuracy analog output that is proportional to the adapter current. In the MAX17015, this current monitor remains active when the adapter is absent to monitor battery discharge current. The MAX17005 charges three or four Li+ series cells, and the MAX17006 charges two or three Li+ series cells. The MAX17015 adjusts the charge voltage setting and the number of cells through a feedback resistor-divider from the output. All variants of the charger can provide at least 4A of charge current with a 10mΩ sense resistor. The charger utilizes a charge pump to control an n-channel adapter selection switch. The charge pump remains active even when the charger is off. When the adapter is connected to the charger, the charger will charge the battery through the charge pump. When the charge is finished, the charge pump is turned off and the adapter will continue to power the battery.

The MAX5954 hot-plug controller is designed for PCI Express™ applications. The device provides hot-plug control for 12V, 3.3V, and 3.3V auxiliary supplies of a single PCI Express (PCI-E) slot. The MAX5954’s logic inputs/outputs allow interfacing directly with the system hot-plug management controller or through an SMBus™ with an external I/O expander. Integrated debounced attention switch and present-detect signals are included to simplify system design. The MAX5954 drives two external n-channel MOSFETs to control the 12V and 3.3V main outputs. The 3.3V auxiliary output is controlled through an internal 0.3Ω n-channel MOSFET. An internal charge pump provides gate drive for the 12V output while the gate drive of the 3.3V output is driven by the 12V input supply. The 3.3V auxiliary output is completely independent from the main outputs with its own charge pump. At power-up, the MAX5954 keeps all of the external MOSFETs off until the supplies rise above their respective undervoltage-lockout (UVLO) thresholds. The device keeps the internal MOSFET off only until the auxiliary input supply rises above its UVLO threshold. Upon a turn-on command, the MAX5954 enhances the external and internal MOSFETs slowly with a constant gate current to limit the power-supply inrush current. The MAX5954 actively limits the current of all outputs at all times and shuts down if an overcurrent condition persists for longer than a programmable overcurrent timeout.

The MAX8620Y micro-power-management integrated circuit (µPMIC) powers low-voltage microprocessors or DSPs in portable devices. The µPMIC includes a high- efficiency step-down DC-DC converter, two low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs), a microprocessor reset output, and power-on/off control logic. This device maintains high efficiency at light loads with a low 115µA supply current, and its miniature TDFN package makes it ideal for portable devices. The MAX8620Y’s step-down DC-DC converter utilizes a proprietary 4MHz hysteretic-PWM control scheme that allows for ultra-small external components. Internal syn- chronous rectification improves efficiency and elimi- nates the external Schottky diode that is required in conventional step-down converters. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to 3.3V, with guaranteed output current up to 500mA. The MAX8620Y’s two LDOs offer low 45µVRMS output noise and a low dropout of only 200mV at 200mA. Each LDO delivers at least 300mA of continuous output cur- rent. The output voltages are pin selectable from 1.8V to 3.3V for flexibility. A microprocessor reset output (RESET) monitors OUT1 and warns the system of impending power loss allow- ing safe shutdown. RESET asserts during power-up, power-down, shutdown, and fault conditions where VOUT1 is below its regulation voltage. The MAX200-MAX211/MAX213 are designed for RS-232 and V.28 communication interfaces where ±12V supplies are not available. On-board charge pumps convert the +5V input to the ±10V needed for RS-232 output levels. The MAX201 and MAX209 operate from +5V and +12V, and contain a +12V to -12V charge-pump voltage converter. The MAX200-MAX211/MAX213 drivers and receivers meet all EIA/TIA-232E and CCITT V.28 specifications at a data rate of 20kbps. The drivers maintain the ±5V EIA/TIA-232E output signal levels at data rates in excess of 120kbps when loaded in accordance with the EIA/TIA-232E specification. The 5µW shutdown mode of the MAX200, MAX205, MAX206, and MAX211 conserves energy in battery- powered systems. The MAX213 has an active-low shut- down and an active-high receiver enable control. Two receivers of the MAX213 are active, allowing ring indica- tor (RI) to be monitored easily using only 75µW power. The MAX211 and MAX213 are available in a 28-pin wide small-outline (SO) package and a 28-pin shrink small-outline (SSOP) package, which occupies only 40% of the area of the SO. The MAX207 is now avail- able in a 24-pin SO package and a 24-pin SSOP. The MAX203 and MAX205 use no external components, and are recommended for applications with limited circuit board space.

The MAX1358/MAX1359/MAX1360 smart data-acquisition systems (DAS) are each based on a 16-bit, sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and system-support functionality for a microprocessor (µP)-based system. These devices integrate an ADC, DACs, operational amplifiers, internal 1.25V/2.048V/2.5V selectable reference, temperature sensors, analog switches, a 32kHz oscillator, a real-time clock (RTC) with alarm, a high-frequency-locked loop (FLL) clock, four user-programmable I/Os, an interrupt generator, and 1.8V and 2.7V voltage monitors in a single chip.

The DS2405 Addressable Switch is a product with a unique identification number and switch functionality. It can be controlled via a 1-Wire bus and supports independent switching of multiple devices. The product features low cost, low power consumption, and a wide operating temperature range.

The MAX1564 is a triple, current-limited USB switch that comes in a compact 16-pin 4mm x 4mm thin QFN package. Each channel meets all IEC specifications for USB ports. The device is capable of supplying up to 1.2A from each output. The MAX1564 has multiple protection features, including thermal shutdown to limit junction temperature in case of a prolonged short or overload condition. Reverse-current protection circuitry blocks current flow from output to input regardless of the switch state. The IC has accurate, user-programmable current-limiting circuitry to protect the input supply against overload. Each output of the MAX1564 has short-circuit protection that latches off the switch when the output is shorted for more than 20ms, thereby saving system power. Auto-restart then tests the shorted output with a 25mA current to determine when the short is removed, then automatically restarts the output. Independent open-drain fault signals notify the microprocessor that the internal current limit has been reached. A 20ms fault-blanking feature allows momentary faults to be ignored, such as those caused when hot-swapping into a capacitive load. This feature helps avoid issuing false alarms to the host system. Blanking also suppresses errant fault signals when the device is powering up.

The MAX3738 is a +3.3V laser driver designed for multi-rate transceiver modules with data rates from 155Mbps to 2.7Gbps. Lasers can be DC-coupled to the MAX3738 for reduced component count and ease of multirate operation. Laser extinction ratio control (ERC) combines the features of automatic power control (APC), modulation compensation, and built-in thermal compensation. The APC loop maintains constant average optical power. Modulation compensation increases the modulation current in proportion to the bias current. These control loops, combined with thermal compensation, maintain a constant optical extinction ratio over temperature and lifetime. The MAX3738 accepts differential data input signals. The wide 5mA to 60mA (up to 85mA AC-coupled) modulation current range and up to 100mA bias current range, make the MAX3738 ideal for driving FP/DFB lasers in fiber optic modules. External resistors set the required laser current levels. The MAX3738 provides transmit disable control (TX_DISABLE), single-point fault tolerance, bias-current monitoring, and photocurrent monitoring. The device also offers a latched failure output (TX_FAULT) to indicate faults, such as when the APC loop is no longer able to maintain the average optical power at the required level. The MAX3738 is compliant with the SFF-8472 transmitter diagnostic and SFP MSA timing requirements. The MAX3738 is offered in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin thin QFN package and operates over the extended -40°C to 85°C ambient temperature range, and at a supply voltage of 3.3V.
