NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR - LM2524D/LM3524D Regulating Pulse Width Modulator handbook

The LM3524D is a pulse width modulator with ±1% precision 5V reference. The output drive transistor current carrying capability has been increased to 200 mA while reducing VCEsat and increasing VCE breakdown to 60V. The error-amp common mode voltage range has been increased to 5.5V to eliminate the need for a resistive divider from the 5V reference. In the LM3524D, the circuit bias line has been isolated from the shutdown pin. This prevents the oscillator pulse amplitude and frequency from being disturbed by shutdown. Additionally, at high frequencies (~300 kHz), the max. duty cycle per output has been improved to 44% compared to 35% max. duty cycle in other 3524s. In addition, the LM3524D can now be synchronized externally, through pin 3. A latch has also been added to insure one pulse per period even in noisy environments. The LM3524D includes double pulse suppression logic that insures when a shutdown condition is removed the state of the T-flip-flop will change only after the first clock pulse has arrived. This feature prevents the same output from being pulsed twice in a row, thus reducing the possibility of core saturation.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR - LM3590 Series White LED Driver handbook

The LM3590 series white LED driver is a white LED constant current driver capable of supplying up to 3 white LEDs connected in series with 20mA. This device operates over a wide 6V-12.6V input voltage range. The output can accomodate LEDs with a combined forward voltage of up to 11.5V, from a 12V input supply. The LED drive current is programmed by using an external resistor on the ISET pin. LED brightness can be linearly varied up to the programmed LED current by applying a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal to the EN pin of the device. The LED output current of the LM3590 is tightly controlled over temperature and voltage. LED Current matching is guaranteed due to the series configuration of the LEDs. The series topology also simpli- fies the connection between the White LEDs in the display module and the LM3590 since only one connection is re- quired. The LM3590 typically draws only 50µA when operating in the no-load condition and draws less than 0.1µA when the de- vice is shut down. The LM3590 is available in a small 5-pin SOT23 package.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR LM117/LM317A/LM317 Manual

The LM117 series of adjustable 3-terminal positive voltage regulators is capable of supplying in excess of 1.5A over a 1.2V to 37V output range. They are exceptionally easy to use and require only two external resistors to set the output voltage. Further, both line and load regulation are better than standard fixed regulators. Also, the LM117 is packaged in standard transistor packages which are easily mounted and handled. In addition to higher performance than fixed regulators, the LM117 series offers full overload protection available only in IC's. Included on the chip are current limit, thermal overload protection and safe area protection. All overload protection circuitry remains fully functional even if the adjustment terminal is disconnected. Normally, no capacitors are needed unless the device is situated more than 6 inches from the input filter capacitors in which case an input bypass is needed. An optional output capacitor can be added to improve transient response. The adjustment terminal can be bypassed to achieve very high ripple rejection ratios which are difficult to achieve with standard 3-terminal regulators. Besides replacing fixed regulators, the LM117 is useful in a wide variety of other applications. Since the regulator is “floating” and sees only the input-to-output differential voltage, supplies of several hundred volts can be regulated as long as the maximum differential voltage is not exceeded.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR - LM3595 Parallel White-LED Driver General Description The LM3595 is a parallel white-LED driver handbook

The LM3595 is a parallel white-LED driver that can drive four white LEDs. It can supply a total output current of 100mA over an input voltage range of 3.0V to 5.5V. The amount of constant current sourced to the outputs is user selectable using one external sense resistor. LM3595 typically draws 0.03µA when placed in shutdown, and 200µA when operating in the no-load condition. If any of the outputs are not used, leave the pin(s) unconnected. Brightness can be controlled by both analog and PWM techniques. A voltage between 0V and 3V may be applied to the BRGT pin to vary the current. Output current will linearly track the voltage applied to the BRGT pin. An active-low level must be present on the BR-ON pin for analog brightness control to be disabled. Alternatively, a PWM signal can be applied to the EN pin to vary the perceived brightness of the LED. The LM3595 uses an active-high enable level. The LM3595 is available in National’s LLP-10 package.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR - LM3509 High Efficiency Boost for White LED's and/or OLED Displays with Dual Current Sinks I 2C Compatible Brightness Control handbook

The LM3509 is a high efficiency current mode boost converter designed for driving white LED's and/or OLED displays. It offers dual current sinks and I2C compatible brightness control. The LM3509 can be configured as a constant current sink for driving series white LED's or as a feedback pin to set a constant output voltage for powering OLED panels. When configured as a dual output white LED bias supply, it adaptively regulates the supply voltage of the LED strings to maximize efficiency and ensure the current sinks remain in regulation. The maximum current per output can be set via a single external low power resistor. The LED current in each output can be independently adjusted from 0 to max current in 32 exponential steps using the I2C compatible interface. When configured as a white LED + OLED bias supply, the LM3509 can independently and simultaneously drive up to 5 white LED strings and provide a constant output voltage of up to 21V for OLED panels. Output over-voltage protection shuts down the device if VOUT rises above 21V, allowing for the use of small sized low voltage output capacitors. The LM3509 is offered in a small 10-pin thermally enhanced LLP package and operates over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
