Installation and operation guide for VORTAB flow conditioners including VIP, VIS, VMR, VSR, VEL, and VFK models.
This guide provides detailed installation procedures and operational guidelines for VORTAB flow conditioners. It covers various models including Insertion Panel (VIP), Insertion Sleeve (VIS), Meter Run (VMR), Short Run (VSR), Elbow (VEL), and Field Kit (VFK). Each model is designed to establish a uniform, non-swirling velocity profile downstream from flow meters or process equipment. Installation methods include flange mounting, welding, or field assembly, with specific orientation and spacing requirements to ensure optimal performance and minimal pressure loss.
The document also includes technical specifications for each model, detailing materials, pipe sizes, connection types, and length requirements. It emphasizes the importance of correct installation to avoid flow disturbances, cavitation, and equipment damage. Orientation is critical for VIP models, and the guide provides visual references and step-by-step instructions for proper installation.
| Vortab Insertion Sleeve (VIS) Material | 316L SST & Hastelloy C-276 for all sizes, Carbon steel for sizes 4.51 inch and higher |
|---|---|
| Vortab Meter Run (VMR) Length | 7 nominal pipe diameters (7D) |
| Vortab Short Run (VSR) Length | 3 nominal pipe diameters (3D) |
| Vortab Insertion Panel (VIP) Material | 316L Stainless Steel |
| VIP Orientation Tabs | One orientation tab and one orientation handle 180º offset for sizes below 24.40-inches (620 mm), two orientation tabs offset 180º for sizes 24.40" and above |
The VIS must be sized to fit the process pipe or duct and can be welded in place or secured with a capture flange. The outlet must be located three to four nominal pipe diameters (3D - 4D) upstream from the customer meter.
VMR is constructed from 316L SST and Hastelloy C-276 for all sizes, with carbon steel available for sizes 8 inches and above.
The VSR is 3 nominal pipe diameters (3D) in length and includes only the flow conditioning internals.
