Guidelines for implementing the Volkswagen Global Transport Label (GTL) version 01, covering layout, data fields, and usage in VW package structures.
This document provides the implementation guidelines for the Global Transport Label (GTL) used by Volkswagen AG. It explains the purpose of the GTL, its role as a standardized transport label in the automotive industry, and the required material‑flow information that must be printed and encoded on the label.
The guide details label formats (A5, A6, KLT, AIAG‑B10), font recommendations, field assignments, and data‑field specifications. It also describes how the GTL fits into the VW package structure, the handling of master, mixed and small labels, and the relationship to the former OTL standard.
| Standard label size (A5) | 210 mm x 148 mm |
|---|---|
| Small label (KLT) size | 210 mm x 74 mm |
| Recommended font | ARIAL or ARIAL NARROW |
| Maximum font size for A5 label | 8 pt |
| Maximum font size for small label | 6 pt |
The GTL stores package‑related information needed to identify the handling unit, material, packaging and to assign EDI messages and accompanying documents.
Volkswagen uses ISO‑A5 (210 mm × 148 mm), a small KLT label (210 mm × 74 mm), ISO‑A6 (148 mm × 105 mm) and AIAG‑B10 (142.5 mm × 101.6 mm).
ARIAL or ARIAL NARROW is recommended; the maximum font size is 8 pt for A5 labels and 6 pt for small labels.
Data fields are grouped into mandatory (M) and conditional (K) blocks, covering supplier, customer, and logistics information, as shown in the assignment overview.
