This data sheet describes the Juniper Networks EX4200 line of Ethernet switches with Virtual Chassis technology. According to the document, the switches combine the high availability and carrier-class reliability of modular systems with the economics and flexibility of stackable platforms for data center, campus and branch office environments. A full suite of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching capabilities is included in the base software.
The document covers the product description and overview, architecture and key components such as the EX-PFE Packet Forwarding Engine and integrated Routing Engine, Virtual Chassis technology that interconnects up to 10 EX4200 switches over a 128 Gbps backplane, and features and benefits grouped under chassis-class availability, including redundant power supplies, a hot-swappable fan tray, Graceful Route Engine Switchover, Non-Stop Bridging and Non-Stop Routing.
| Port configurations | 24-port or 48-port switch |
|---|---|
| Virtual Chassis members | Up to 10 EX4200 switches |
| Virtual backplane speed | 128 Gbps |
| Maximum ports in a Virtual Chassis | 480 10/100/1000BASE-T ports or 240 100/1000BASE-X ports |
| Uplink module options | Four GbE ports or two 10GbE ports |
| Partial PoE models | Class 3 PoE, up to 18.6 watts on the first eight ports |
| PoE+ models | Up to 30 watts of 802.3at PoE+ on 24 or 48 ports |
| Fan tray | Hot-swappable, field-replaceable fan tray with three blowers |
| Form factor | Single rack-unit devices |
| Power supplies | Internal redundant, load-sharing, hot-swappable, field-replaceable AC and DC |
Up to 10 EX4200 switches can be interconnected over a 128 Gbps virtual backplane and managed as a single device.
Optional front-panel uplink modules offer either four GbE ports or two 10GbE ports, and can be installed without powering down the switch.
Junos OS initiates an election process that assigns a master and backup Routing Engine, and Graceful Route Engine Switchover maintains uninterrupted access to applications and services after a primary RE failure.
PoE+ models deliver up to 30 watts of standards-based 802.3at PoE+ on 24 or 48 ports.
