This manual introduces the features and characteristics of the Victoreen 451P & 451P-DE-SI ® ion chamber survey meter, including receiving inspection, specifications, operation, and maintenance.
The Fluke 451P and 451P-DE-SI Ion Chamber Survey Meters are hand-held, pressurized, battery-operated units designed to measure gamma, x-ray, and beta radiation. The device features a 2 1/2 digit liquid crystal display with an analog bargraph, auto-ranging capabilities, and an auto-on backlight. It utilizes two 9-volt batteries for operation and includes an internal factory-set alarm for high radiation rates.

|---|---|
| Operating Ranges | 0 to 500 μR/hr to 0 to 5 R/h |
| Accuracy | ± 10% of reading |
| Detector | 230 cc volume air ionization chamber |
| Warm-Up Time | Less than one minute |
| Response Time | 5 seconds to 1.8 seconds depending on range |
| Batteries | Two 9-volt batteries |
| Operating Temperature | -20º to +50ºC |

The warm-up time is about four minutes for readings less than 20 μR/h in a 10 μR/h or less background, or less than one minute for initial operation if in temperature equilibrium.
When the LOW BATTERY indicator blinks, there is less than one hour of operation remaining.
Yes, the instrument will function on one battery for approximately 100 hours, allowing replacement of one battery at a time.
A one-minute warm-up period is recommended before making a measurement.
