The STMicroelectronics STiH225 is a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) designed for the interactive cable set-top box market. It combines a cable transceiver, ITU-T J.83 A/B/C demodulator, and STB decoding functions into a single device to reduce board area and manufacturing costs.
The chip features an embedded EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem with support for DOCSIS 3.0 downstream channel bonding. It includes firmware-based multi-standard HD video decoders (H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1) and audio processors (MP3, AAC, Dolby Digital), along with a programmable transport stream processor and DVR support.
The device is packaged in a 35 mm x 35 mm x 2.30 mm PBGA package.
The firmware-based decoder supports H.264, MPEG-4 AVC HP@L4, MPEG-2 MP@HL, and SMPTE VC-1 AP@L3.
The processor handles MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 HE AAC, Dolby Digital, and Dolby Digital Plus.
