This document introduces the STP16CP05 and STP16CPS05 LED drivers and provides two reference designs, for driving 80 and 32 high brightness LED arrays, respectively.
This document presents a simple design solution for driving arrays of high brightness LEDs using the STP16CP05 and STP16CPS05 LED drivers. The proposed solution eliminates the need for external resistors for each individual LED by using constant current outputs, ensuring uniform brightness across the array. Two specific reference designs are detailed: one featuring an 80-LED matrix (5x16) and another with a smaller 32-LED matrix (4x8).
| Maximum communication frequency | 30 MHz |
|---|---|
| Supply voltage range (32 LED design) | 5 V up to 35 V |
| Microcontroller used | ST7Lite09 |
| LED matrix size (Design 1) | 5 x 16 |
| LED matrix size (Design 2) | 4 x 8 |
Both designs are controlled by the ST7Lite09 microcontroller, which provides full text motion control, brightness regulation, and text speed control.
The constant LED current is set using just one external resistor to control the light intensity of the LEDs.
The STPxxCx05 drivers guarantee up to 20 V output driving capability, allowing designers to connect more LEDs in series.
