STMPE801 is an eight-bit port expander that can be interfaced to the main digital ASIC or processor via the two-line bidirectional I2C bus. This application note explains the setup and hardware interfacing of the device to the main processor.
The STMPE801 is an eight-bit port expander designed for mobile multimedia platforms, such as portable media players, game consoles, and smartphones. It interfaces with the main digital ASIC or processor via a two-line bidirectional I2C bus to increase the number of I/Os or control signals. The device features configurable GPIOs, a Hot Key detection feature, and low power consumption with ultra-low standby current.
The document provides detailed hardware interface information, including pin descriptions, power supply requirements (VCC and VIO), I2C interface specifications, and reset/interrupt pin configurations. It also outlines the power-up sequence and troubleshooting tips for hardware implementation.
| I/Os | eight-bit |
|---|---|
| Package | QFN16 - 16 pins |
| I2C Speed Modes | Standard (up to 100kbps) and Fast (up to 400kbps) |
| Addressing Mode | 7-bit addressing mode |
The Reset pin is an active low input that should be tied HIGH to VIO supply to start normal operation.
The interrupt output polarity can be configured as active low or active high by setting Bit 0 of the SYSCON register.
All 8 GPIO lines are configured as inputs at power-on/reset.
