This document is the instruction manual for the HI 96801 refractometer, which provides information on the specifications, principle of operation, functional description, display elements, warnings, error messages, calibration procedure, measurement procedure, battery replacement, and warranty information of the product.
The HI 96801 is a rugged, portable, water-resistant optical instrument designed to determine the percentage of sugar (% Brix) in aqueous solutions. It utilizes automatic temperature compensation (ATC) and features a dual-level LCD display with icons for low power and error messages. The device automatically turns off after three minutes of non-use.
| Range | 0 to 85% Brix / 0 to 80°C (32 to 176°F) |
|---|---|
| Resolution | + 0.1% Brix/ +0.1°C (+0.1°F) |
| Accuracy | + 0.2% Brix/ + 0.3°C (+0.5°F) |
| Temperature Compensation | Automatic between 10 and 40°C (50 - 104°F) |
| Measurement Time | Approximately 1.5 seconds |
| Minimum Sample Volume | 100µL (cover prism totally) |
| Battery Type / Life | 1X 9V / 5000 readings |
| Auto-Off | After 3 minutes of non-use |
The instrument requires a minimum of 100µL to cover the prism totally.
Calibration should be done daily, before measurements, when the battery is replaced, or between long series of measurements.
If the temperature is outside the 10-40°C (50-104°F) range, automatic temperature compensation is disabled and the ATC tag blinks.
The instrument operates on a single 9V battery.
