About this manual

The ADP3156 is a highly efficient synchronous buck switching regulator controller optimized for converting 3.3 V or 5 V main supplies into lower voltages required on motherboards of Pentium III and other high-performance processor systems. It utilizes a current-mode, constant off-time architecture to drive two external N-channel MOSFETs at a programmable switching frequency.

A unique feature is the supplemental regulation technique called active voltage positioning, which adjusts the output voltage as a function of load current to optimize transient response with minimal capacitors and footprint. The device includes short circuit protection, adjustable current limiting, and an integrated overvoltage crowbar function that protects microprocessors if the core supply exceeds the nominal programmed voltage by more than 15%.
