About this manual

The MAX6650 and MAX6651 are fan‑speed regulators and monitors that use a SMBus/I2C‑compatible interface to control 3 V‑5.5 V fans. They regulate fan speed by adjusting the voltage across the fan with an external MOSFET or bipolar transistor and provide up to four tachometer inputs (MAX6651) for monitoring fan speed.

The devices are offered in a 10‑pin UMAX package (MAX6650) and a 16‑pin QSOP package (MAX6651). They include general‑purpose I/O pins, programmable alert outputs, and selectable slave addresses, making them suitable for RAID desktops, servers, workstations, and networking equipment.
