The document explains the installation of the required driver for Digi devices and the communication method between the viewLinc server and the Digi device.
This guide supplements the viewLinc Quick Start Guide and explains how to configure Digi devices that are not on the local subnet. It covers verifying network connectivity, installing the RealPort driver, and configuring the Digi device settings.
After the Digi device is set up, the guide shows how to test communication with the attached logger, troubleshoot blocked TCP port 771, and continue the standard viewLinc installation process.
Enter a ping command to the Digi’s IP address from the machine where viewLinc will be installed and ensure a response is received.
Running a telnet command to the Digi on port 771 will show a blank screen with three horizontal lines and a blinking cursor, confirming the port is open.
Open the port on any intervening network devices or firewalls (router, firewall, layer‑3 switch, or Windows firewall) before the RealPort driver can communicate.
