The coupler consists of a high output power GaAℓAs light emitting diode and an integrated high gain, high speed shielded photo detector with an output of an open collector schottky clamped transistor. The shield provides a guaranteed transient immunity specification of 1000V/µs by shunting capacirively coupled common noise to ground.

TLP116 is a photocoupler produced by Toshiba. It has high reverse isolation ability and supports digital isolation. It can be used for A/D, D/A conversion, high-speed line receiver, microprocessor system interface and plasma display panel. Its maximum input current is 5mA, maximum input voltage is 0.8V, and maximum supply voltage is 5.5V. The typical switching speed is 20MBd (NRZ).

TLP120 is a small outline coupler suitable for surface mount assembly. It consists of a photo transistor optically coupled to two gallium arsenide infrared emitting diode connected inverse parallel and can operate directly by AC input current.
