EXAR ST16C554/554D/68C554 Datasheet
The ST16C554 series is a universal asynchronous receiver‑transmitter (UART) offering a dual‑footprint interface and enhanced functionality. It provides 16‑byte transmit and receive FIFOs, up to 1.5 Mbps data rates, independent transmit/receive control, a software‑selectable baud‑rate generator, four selectable FIFO interrupt trigger levels, and a standard modem interface. The devices are offered in 64‑pin TQFP and 68‑pin PLCC packages, with the 68‑pin version supporting both 16‑mode (Intel) and 68‑mode (Motorola) bus interfaces.
The datasheet includes detailed pin descriptions, block diagrams for both 16‑mode and 68‑mode operation, ordering information with temperature ranges, mechanical dimensions for the PLCC carrier, and legal notices. Compatibility with industry‑standard UARTs such as ST16C454, ST68C454, ST68C554 and TL16C554 is also listed.
