About this manual

This design guide outlines best‑practice guidelines for creating injection‑molded components from engineering thermoplastics. It covers key topics such as wall thickness, parting lines, ejection, appearance surfaces, ribs, gussets, bosses, holes, depressions, and radii, fillets and corners.

The document provides specific recommendations on draft angles, material thickness ratios, feature dimensions, and tooling considerations to help designers achieve reliable molding, reduce stress concentrations, and improve part quality.

Frequently asked questions

What draft angle should be added for textured surfaces?

Add 1° additional draft for each 0.001 in (0.025 mm) depth in texture.

What is the recommended length‑over‑diameter ratio for blind holes?

For blind holes the length‑over‑diameter ratio should remain below 2 (up to 3 for diameters larger than 3/16 in).

How far should texture be placed from a parting line?

Textured surfaces should stop at least 0.060 in (1.524 mm) or a minimum of 0.040 in (1.016 mm) from any parting line.
