This training document introduces the use of VOC gas detectors.
This document serves as a training guide for Brieser Construction employees regarding the use of three specific Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) gas meters: the MSA Sirius PID, the BW Gas Alert Micro 5 PID, and the Ultra Rae 3000. The manual outlines the specific gases these devices detect, including Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene, and explains that users must configure the device menus to target specific VOCs.
| Bump Test Frequency | Daily or as indicated by manufacturer |
|---|---|
| Calibration Frequency | Every 30 days |
| Benzene TLV TWA | 0.5 ppm |
| Benzene STEL | 2.5 ppm |
The meters can detect VOCs as well as four other gases (O2, CO2, LEL, H2S), or just the VOC by itself.
The monitors must be calibrated every 30 days to ensure sensors are functioning as designed.
The STEL for Benzene is defined as a 15-minute exposure limit of 2.5 ppm.
