This document introduces an instrument for continuously monitoring the corrosion characteristics of drilling mud
The Galvanic Corrosion Monitor is an instrument designed to continuously monitor the corrosion characteristics of drilling mud. It consists of two electrodes mounted in a high-pressure pipe plug, connected to a microammeter housed in a weather-resistant casing. The device measures the current generated by corrosion on the electrodes to provide a qualitative estimate of the corrosion rate.
| Measurement Range | 0 - 100 Microamp |
|---|---|
| Installation Port Size | 2 inch N.P.T. |
| Cleaning Frequency | Every 2 to 4 weeks |
Experience indicates that cleaning every 2 to 4 weeks of continuous use usually provides effective operation.
A reading between 20 and 40 microamps indicates a serious corrosion rate of 2 to 5 lb per sq. ft. per year.
The brass electrode is positive, while the steel electrode is negative.
