This manual introduces methods for repairing damaged ductile iron pipes, including inspection of damaged pipes and fittings, repair of external cement mortar lining, repair of fused bonded epoxy coating, and repair of lining
This manual provides repair methods for ductile iron pipes damaged during handling or transit. It covers inspection, cutting, deformation correction, and repair of internal cement mortar lining. Procedures include using hydraulic jacks, epoxy paint, and cement mortar mixtures. The manual advises site supervisors to follow these steps to ensure pipes remain functional under heavy usage.
Repair methods are categorized by damage type: minor damage, serious damage, or disposal. Each repair includes specific tools, measurements, and tolerances based on JWWA or AWWA pipe standards. The manual also includes tables for diameter tolerances and crack width limits according to ISO 4179.
Engine-driven cutter, power-operated metal saw, portable disc grinder, and measuring tape.
Use a hydraulic jack with rubber sheets/iron plates/wood blocks to gradually expand the diameter until it slightly exceeds required dimensions.
Use seal coat, epoxy paint, or cement mortar depending on damage condition, with Kubota-provided seal coat recommended.
Cover the repaired portion with a wet towel or paper, seal with plastic sheet and adhesive tape, and keep for more than 24 hours.
