61-310 Meter Field Test Adjustment Method

This document introduces the temperature test and adjustment method for the 61-310 meter. The meter uses a thermocouple to measure temperature, and the accuracy of the thermocouple ranges from 2% to 20% depending on the purity of the metals and construction. Although the accuracy of the thermocouple is not high, it can be compensated for by calibration under normal environmental conditions. This document introduces a method of using the freezing point and boiling point of water to calibrate the thermometer.

About this manual

This document provides a field test and adjustment method for the 61-310 meter, which uses thermocouples to measure temperature. It explains that low-cost instruments often have lower accuracy thermocouples but can be calibrated using standard reference points: water freezing at 0°C (32°F) and boiling at 100°C (212°F).

Frequently asked questions

What temperature range should the meter display when calibrated for Celsius?

The meter should display 0 °C +/- 1°C when placed in slushy water and 100 °C +/- 12C when placed in boiling water.

What temperature range should the meter display when calibrated for Fahrenheit?

The meter should display 32 °F +/- 1°F in slushy water and 212 °F +/- 19°C in boiling water.

How should the screws be tightened when reassembling the meter?

You should not tighten the screws past slightly snug.
