This guide describes how to use the VMware vCenter Discovered Machines Import Tool. The tool can be used to import computers that have been discovered by Nmap scanning into vCenter Configuration Manager.
The VMware vCenter Discovered Machines Import Tool (DMIT) allows system administrators to import machines and devices discovered by Network Mapper (Nmap) into the vCenter Configuration Manager (VCM) database. The tool compares information retrieved by Nmap with existing database records, reports differences, and facilitates the licensing and management of imported machines. If database access is unavailable, the tool can generate a SQL script containing the required information.
The tool obtains information related to discovered machines and devices retrieved by Nmap and imports selected machines into the VCM database as discovered machines.
The machine must have Nmap (with WinPcap) version 5.2.1 and VMware vCenter Configuration Manager version 4.9 or later installed.
The tool allows you to create a SQL script that contains all of the required information.
