Designed for reworking SMT components, SMTC tip cartridges do it all – assembly, removal and cleaning. The SMTC range includes slot, tunnel and quad tip cartridges. The SMTC range also includes hoof tips for drag soldering, blade tips to remove residual solder from pads, and knife tips for multi-lead soldering of PLCCs in tight places.
This handbook describes SMTC’s range of SMT rework tip cartridges, which are designed for assembly, removal, and cleaning of surface‑mount components. The cartridges are intended for use with the MX‑RM3E soldering/rework hand‑pieces for STSS/MX systems only and are not compatible with SP systems, Talon® hand‑pieces, or desolder hand‑pieces.

SMTC tip cartridges are compatible only with the MX‑RM3E soldering/rework hand‑pieces for STSS/MX systems; they cannot be used with SP systems, Talon® hand‑pieces, or desolder hand‑pieces.
Dual tip cartridges require two power supply units and two hand‑pieces, and a Dual Hand‑Piece Support (MX‑DHS) is recommended.
All quad tip cartridges should use the 700 series tip cartridges.
The Microfine series is designed for reworking 0201 and 0402 components in tight spaces, allowing topside removal and fine drag soldering of micro PLCC and QFP parts.
