This document describes the features and characteristics of Opto 22's standard AC output modules. These modules have rugged construction and 4000 volts of optical isolation. They are used for controlling or switching AC loads and feature zero voltage turn-on and zero current turn-off.
Standard AC Output Modules from Opto 22 provide rugged, optically isolated switching for AC loads. All modules offer up to 4,000 V transient isolation, zero‑voltage turn‑on and zero‑current turn‑off, and are available in normally‑open (SPST‑NO) and normally‑closed (SPST‑NC) configurations.
The datasheet lists electrical ratings such as current limits, surge capability, and isolation voltage, as well as mechanical dimensions and connection diagrams for each part number (OAC5, OAC5A, OAC5A5, OAC15, OACI5A, OAC24, OAC24A). Typical applications include relays, solenoids, motor starters, heaters, and indicator lamps.
| Current Rating @45 °C Ambient | 3 A |
|---|---|
| UL Motor Load Rating | 1.5 A |
| One‑Cycle Surge | 80 A peak |
| Peak Repetitive Voltage | 500 V |
| Isolation (Transient) | 4,000 V |
| Minimum Load Current | 20 mA |
| Operating Ambient Temperature Range | -30 °C to 70 °C |
The modules provide up to 4,000 V of optical isolation between the field devices and the control logic (transient).
The maximum continuous current rating at 45 °C ambient is 3 A.
The OAC5 module is equivalent to a single‑pole, single‑throw, normally‑open contact (FORM A, SPST‑NO).
Typical loads include relays, solenoids, motor starters, heaters, and lamps or indicators.
