ABB launches propulsion condition management system for remote monitoring of offshore installations
The Propulsion Condition Management System (PCMS) is a scalable, flexible monitoring tool that collects and analyses data from a wide range of installed devices on offshore vessels. It integrates with ABB's Azipod® electric propulsion system and other shipboard equipment, providing remote access for service engineers and enabling condition‑based maintenance.
PCMS uses OPC connectivity and a dedicated software/hardware layer to gather data from both ABB and non‑ABB devices, including vibration monitoring, bearing oil particle analysis, and power distribution metrics. The system presents alarms, events, and diagnostic reports through a customizable user‑interface panel located in the ship’s engine control room.
| Number of diesel generators | Four Wartsila 16V46CR engines |
|---|---|
| Azipod power rating | 20.5 MW per unit |
| Vibration sampling frequency (BeAM) | 41 kHz |
| Oil particle measurement interval | Every 30 minutes |
| OPC data exchange | Supported for non‑ABB devices |
PCMS stands for Propulsion Condition Management System.
PCMS includes a Bearing Asset Monitor (BeAM) that samples vibration at 41 kHz and analyses the data for shock‑pulse transients to detect early bearing faults.
Yes, service engineers can log into the PCMS server remotely to view diagnostics and generate reports.
