This document describes the significant enhancements made to the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system to support Intel® Itanium® 2 processor Hyper-Threading (HT) technology.
The document explains how HP‑UX 11i v3 implements hyper‑threading (HT) on Intel Itanium 2 processors, introducing the LCPU abstraction and detailing the impact on applications and system performance. It covers hardware thread processing modes, switch events, shared memory structures, and the relationship between logical processors and HT.
Key sections describe enabling/disabling HT via firmware or the cpuconfig command, system configuration options such as sysconf(_SC_HT_CAPABLE) and sysconf(_SC_HT_ENABLED), PSET operations, timing and topology information, and application‑specific considerations for commercial, technical, and high‑performance workloads. This manual is written in Chinese.
| Enable HT command | cpuconfig threads on |
|---|---|
| Disable HT command | cpuconfig threads off |
| Sysconf option to check HT capability | _SC_HT_CAPABLE |
| Sysconf option to check HT enabled state | _SC_HT_ENABLED |
You can enable HT either in firmware or by running the command cpuconfig threads on.
Use sysconf(_SC_HT_CAPABLE) to test if HT is supported and sysconf(_SC_HT_ENABLED) to see if it is currently enabled.
Run the command cpuconfig threads off to turn HT off.
