This document explains how to transfer methods from conventional 3.5 µm or 5 µm columns to Agilent Poroshell 120 columns to improve analytical speed and resolution. Poroshell 120 particles are manufactured by Agilent using a proprietary process that creates a superficially porous shell around a solid core. These columns will work on virtually any HPLC and can be scaled from conventional 3 or 5 µm columns with minor modifications to the instrument. The Agilent 1290 Infinity Thermostatted Column Compartment is a device that enables precise column thermostatting over a temperature range from 10 degrees below ambient up to 100 °C, providing infinite flexibility for optimizing the speed and selectivity of a separation. It features ultra-high pressure valves that enable a wide range of solutions such as dual or multi-column selection, sample preparation, or alternating column regeneration. The 1290 Infinity TCC can be used together with 1290 Infinity LC and 1260 Infinity LC systems as well as with existing 1200 Series LC and RRLC or even 1100 Series LC systems. It also allows clustering of up to three 1290 Infinity TCC modules for maximum flexibility for multi-method solutions.
