The Kinetis product portfolio from Freescale Semiconductor is a low-power, mixed-signal microcontroller based on ARM Cortex-M4. This document describes the features and characteristics of the K40 series products.

Kinetis is a low power, mixed signal microcontroller based on the ARM® CortexTM-M4 with extreme scalability. The first phase of products consists of five microcontroller series, including over two hundred devices, which are pin, peripheral, and software compatible. Each series provides different performance, memory and peripheral features. Consistency of common peripherals, memory mapping and package enables easy migration within and across the series. Kinetis microcontrollers are based on Freescale’s innovative 90 nanometer thin film storage (TFS) flash technology with a unique Flex Memory (configurable embedded EEPROM). Kinetis microcontroller series incorporates latest low power innovation technologies, with high performance, high precision mixed signal capability, wide connectivity, human machine interfaces and security peripherals. Freescale and many other ARM third party application vendors provide Kinetis microcontroller application support.

The MPC8315E Communication Processor family supports a broad range of feature-rich applications that make the digital home experience easier, richer and more secure. The cost-effective MPC8315E processor meets the requirements of several small office/home office (SOHO) applications, including customer network attached storage (NAS), digital media servers, residential gateways, WLAN access points, printing, IP business and industrial control. It provides better CPU performance, additional features and faster interface speeds, while meeting important time-to-market, price, power consumption and board space requirements. Its integration of Serial ATA, PCI Express® Gigabit Ethernet, high-speed USB 2.0, TDM and low power management makes it unique in the marketplace. It is particularly suited to applications with extremely precise clock synchronization requirements, such as time-sensitive communication business, industrial network switches, powertrain networks and test/measurement devices.

This document is about the introduction of different models of MC9S08DZ16 and MC9S08DZ32 series microcontrollers.
