The MAX618 CMOS, PWM, step-up DC-DC converter generates output voltages up to 28V and accepts inputs from +3V to +28V. An internal 2A, 0.3Ω switch eliminates the need for external power MOSFETs while supplying output currents up to 500mA or more. A PWM control scheme combined with Idle Mode™ operation at light loads minimizes noise and ripple while maximizing efficiency over a wide load range. No-load operating current is 500µA, which allows efficiency up to 93%. A fast 250kHz switching frequency allows the use of small surface-mount inductors and capacitors. A shutdown mode extends battery life when the device is not in use. Adaptive slope compensation allows the MAX618 to accommodate a wide range of input and output voltages with a simple, single compensation capacitor. The MAX618 is available in a thermally enhanced 16-pin QSOP package that is the same size as an industry-standard 8-pin SO but dissipates up to 1W. An evaluation kit (MAX618EVKIT) is available to help speed designs.

The MAX1186 is a 3V, dual 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) featuring fully-differential wideband track-and-hold (T/H) inputs, driving two pipelined, nine-stage ADCs. The MAX1186 is optimized for low-power, high dynamic performance applications in imaging, instrumentation, and digital communication applications. This ADC operates from a single 2.7V to 3.6V supply, consuming only 105mW while delivering a typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 59.4dB at an input frequency of 20MHz and a sampling rate of 40Msps. Digital outputs A and B are updated alternating on the rising (CHA) and the falling (CHB) edge of the clock. The T/H driven input stages incorporate 400MHz (-3dB) input amplifiers. The converters may also be operated with single-ended inputs. In addition to low operating power, the MAX1186 features a 2.8mA sleep mode as well as a 1µA power-down mode to conserve power during idle periods. An internal 2.048V precision bandgap reference sets the full-scale range of the ADCs. A flexible reference structure allows the use of this internal or an externally derived reference, if desired for applications requiring increased accuracy or a different input voltage range. The MAX1186 features parallel, multiplexed, CMOS-compatible three-state outputs. The digital output format can be set to two’s complement or straight offset binary through a single control pin. The device provides for a separate output power supply of 1.7V to 3.6V for flexibility.

The MAX16832A/MAX16832C step-down constant-current high-brightness LED (HB LED) drivers provide a cost-effective design solution for automotive interior/exterior lighting, architectural and ambient lighting, LED bulbs, and other LED illumination applications. The MAX16832A/MAX16832C operate from a +6.5V to +65V input voltage range. A high-side current-sense resistor adjusts the output current up to 700mA, and a dedicated pulse-width modulation (PWM) input enables pulsed LED dimming over a wide range of brightness levels. These devices are well suited for applications requiring a wide input voltage range. The high-side current sensing and an integrated current-setting circuitry minimize the number of external components while delivering an average output current with ±3% accuracy. A hysteretic control method ensures excellent input supply rejection and fast response during load transients and PWM dimming. The MAX16832A allows 10% current ripple, and the MAX16832C allows 30% current ripple. Both devices operate up to a 2MHz switching frequency, thus allowing the use of small-sized components. The MAX16832A/MAX16832C offer an analog dimming feature that reduces the output current by applying an external DC voltage below the internal 2V threshold voltage from TEMP_I to GND. TEMP_I also sources 25µA to a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor connected between TEMP_I and GND, thus providing an analog thermal-foldback feature that reduces the output current when the current reaches the rated value.

The MAX3311E/MAX3313E are low-power, 5V EIA/TIA-232-compatible transceivers. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV using the Human Body Model, making these devices ideal for applications where more robust transceivers are required. Both devices have one transmitter and one receiver. The transmitters have a proprietary low-dropout trans- mitter output stage enabling RS-232-compatible opera- tion from a +5V supply with a single inverting charge pump. These transceivers require only three 0.1µF capacitors and will run at data rates up to 460kbps while maintaining RS-232-compatible output levels. The MAX3311E features a 1µA shutdown mode. In shutdown the device turns off the charge pump, pulls V- to ground, and the transmitter output is disabled. The MAX3313E features an INVALID output that asserts high when an active RS-232 cable signal is connected, signaling to the host that a peripheral is connected to the communication port.
