The MAX13172E is a four-driver/four-receiver multiproto- col transceiver that operates from a single +5V supply in conjunction with the MAX13170E and MAX13174E.

MAX13170E is a three-driver/three-receiver multiprotocol transceiver that operates from a +5V single supply. MAX13170E, along with MAX13172E and MAX13174E, form a complete software-selectable data terminal equipment (DTE) or data communication equipment (DCE) interface port that supports the V.28 (RS-232), V.10/V.11 (RS-449/V.36, EIA-530, EIA-530A, X.21), and V.35 protocols. The MAX13170E transceivers carry the high-speed clock and data signals, while the MAX13172E carry the control signals. The MAX13170E can be terminated by the MAX13174E software-selectable resistor termination network or by discrete termination networks. The MAX13170E has an internal charge pump and a proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage that allows V.11-, V.28-, and V.35-compliant operation from a +5V single supply. The MAX13170E features a no-cable mode that reduces supply current to 0.5µA, and disables all (high-impedance) transmitter and receiver outputs. Short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry protect the receiver and transmitter outputs against excessive power dissipation. The MAX13170E has extended ESD protection for all the transmitter outputs and receivers inputs. The MAX13170E is available in a 5.3mm x 10.2mm, 28-pin SSOP package and operates over the 0°C to +70°C commercial temperature range.

The MXL1543B is a three-driver/three-receiver multiprotocol transceiver that operates from a +5V single supply. The MXL1543B, along with the MXL1544/MAX3175 and the MXL1344A, form a complete software-selectable data terminal equipment (DTE) or data communication equipment (DCE) interface port that supports the V.28 (RS-232), V.10/V.11 (RS-449/V.36, EIA-530, EIA-530A, X.21), and V.35 protocols. The MXL1543B transceivers carry the high-speed clock and data signals while the MXL1544/MAX3175 carry the control signals. The MXL1543B can be terminated by the MXL1344A software-selectable resistor termination network or by discrete termination networks. An internal charge pump and a proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage allow V.11-, V.28-, and V.35-compliant operation from a +5V single supply. A no-cable mode is entered when all mode pins (M0, M1, and M2) are pulled high or left unconnected. In no-cable mode, supply current decreases to 0.5µA and all transmitter and receiver outputs are disabled (high impedance). Short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry protect the drivers against excessive power dissipation.

The MXL1544/MAX3175, along with the MXL1543 and MXL1344A, form a complete software-selectable data terminal equipment (DTE) or data communication equipment (DCE) interface port that supports the V.28 (RS-232), V.10/V.11 (RS-449/V.36, EIA-530, EIA-530A, X.21, RS-423), and V.35 protocols.

The MAX3172/MAX3174 contain five software-selectable multiprotocol cable termination networks. Each network is capable of terminating V.11 (RS-422, RS-530, RS-530A, RS-449, V.36, and X.21) with a 100Ω differential load, V.35 with a T-network load, or V.28 (RS-232) and V.10 (RS-423) with an open circuit load for use with transceivers having on-chip termination. The devices replace discrete resistor termination networks and expensive relays required for multiprotocol termination. The MAX3172/MAX3174, along with the MAX3170 and MAX3171/MAX3173, form a complete +3.3V software-selectable DTE or DCE interface port supporting V.11/RS-422, RS-530, RS-530A, V.36/RS-449, V.35, V.28/RS-232, V.10/RS-423, and X.21 serial interfaces. In addition to the five multiprotocol cable termination networks, the MAX3172/MAX3174 contain a 1Tx/1Rx multiprotocol transceiver designed to use V+ and V- generated by the MAX3171/MAX3173 charge pump. The MAX3172/MAX3174 transceiver is software selectable between V.10 and V.28 modes of operation. The MAX3172 features 10µs deglitching on the V.10/V.28 receiver input to facilitate unterminated operation, while the MAX3174 is used in applications that do not require deglitching on the serial handshake signals. These devices are available in a 28-pin SSOP package.

The MXL1344A is a multi-protocol terminator produced by Maxim. It can be used to terminate V.11 (RS-422, RS-530, RS-530A, RS-449, V.36 and X.21), V.35 and V.28 (RS-232) and V.10 (RS-423) protocols.

The MAX3120 is an IrDA 1.2-compatible infrared transceiver optimized for battery-powered, space-constrained applications. It supports data rates up to 115kbps over a wide 3V to 5.5V operating range, while consuming only 120µA of current. The transceiver features a 10nA shutdown mode to extend battery life. With minimal external components required (photodiode, infrared LED, and current-setting resistor), the MAX3120 reduces the space needed for IrDA applications. The optical components are external, allowing for maximum flexibility in PC board design. The MAX3120 is available in 8-pin µMAX and SO packages, with the µMAX package occupying half the board space of an 8-pin SO package.

The MAX3130/MAX3131 is a MAXIM infrared transceiver that supports the IrDA 1.2 protocol and data rates of 2.4kbps to 115kbps. The chip integrates IrDA transceiver and RS-232 interface, which can realize infrared and RS-232 communication.

The MAX3349EA ±15kV ESD-protected, USB transceiver provides a full-speed USB interface to a lower voltage microprocessor or ASIC. The device supports enumeration, suspend, and VBUS detection. A special UART multiplexing mode routes external UART signals (Rx and Tx) to D+ and D-, allowing the use of a shared connector to reduce cost and part count for mobile devices. The UART interface allows mobile devices such as PDAs, cellular phones, and digital cameras to use either UART or USB signaling through the same connector. The MAX3349EA features a separate UART voltage supply input to support legacy devices using +2.75V signaling. The MAX3349EA supports a maximum UART baud rate of 921kbaud. Upon connection to a USB host, the MAX3349EA enters USB mode and provides a full-speed USB 2.0 compliant interface through VP, VM, RCV, and OE. The MAX3349EA features internal series termination resistors on D+ and D-, and an internal 1.5kΩ pullup resistor to D+ to allow the device to logically connect and disconnect from the USB while plugged in. A suspend mode is provided for low-power operation. D+ and D- are protected from electrostatic discharge (ESD) up to ±15kV. The MAX3349EA is available in 16-pin TQFN (4mm x 4mm) and 16-bump UCSP™ (2mm x 2mm) packages, and is specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.

The MAX13342E/MAX13345E USB-compliant transceivers are designed to minimize the area and external components required to interface low-voltage ASICs to USB. The devices comply with USB 2.0 specification for full-speed-only (12Mbps) operation. The transceivers include an internal 3.3V regulator, an internal 1.5kΩ D+ pullup resistor, and built-in ±15kV ESD protection circuitry to protect the USB I/0 ports (D+,D-). The MAX13345E also has internal series resistors, allowing it to be wired directly to a USB connector. These devices operate with logic-supply voltages as low as +2.3V, ensuring compatibility with low-voltage ASICs. A low-power mode reduces current consumption to less than 45µA. An enumerate function controls the D+ pullup resistor, allowing devices to logically disconnect while remaining plugged in. The MAX13342E has controlled output impedance of 2Ω (max) on D+/D-, allowing the use of external switches to multiplex two different USB devices onto a single USB connector. The MAX13345E has 43.5Ω (max) internal resistors on D+/D- for direct connection to the USB connector. The MAX13342E/MAX13345E are equipped with DAT and SE0 interface signals. These transceivers provide a USB detection function that monitors the presence of USB VBUS and signals the event.
