This article discusses the use of the Cary Absolute Specular Reflectance accessory for measuring the optical constants of thin films. By measuring the transmittance and reflectance, the dispersion and extinction coefficient of the films can be obtained, and various useful quantities such as the dielectric function and absorption coefficient can be calculated.
