This document describes a product that is pin and software compatible with standard 80C51 products and 80C51Fx/Rx/Rx+. It can be used as a plug-in replacement for Intel's 8xC251Sx. The product features the C251 core, a 40-byte register file, registers accessible as bytes, words or dwords, a three-stage instruction pipeline, and a 16-bit internal code fetch. It also has an enriched C51 instruction set, a 16-bit and 32-bit ALU, compare and conditional jump instructions, an expanded set of move instructions, linear addressing, and 1KB of on-chip RAM. The external memory space is programmable from 64 kilobytes to 256 kilobytes. The product is available in different versions with on-chip EPROM/OTPROM or masked ROM, and there is also a ROMless version. It provides four 8-bit parallel I/O ports, a full duplex UART with independent baud rate generator, a synchronous serial link controller, TWI multi-master protocol, μWire and SPI master and slave protocols, three 16-bit timers/counters, an event and waveform controller, and compatibility with Intel's programmable counter array (PCA). The product has a common 16-bit timer/counter reference with four possible clock sources and five modules, each with four programmable modes, including software timer/counter and timer/counter functionality.
