This document describes the features and characteristics of the SM625/SM626/SM627 series power output stages, which are designed for switching power supply applications. The SG29125/125A is a dual 12V/5V positive voltage regulator introduced by LINFINITY Microelectronics Inc. in 1994. One output is a high current (up to 1000 mA) regulator that can be turned on or off by a high impedance low current TTL compatible switch. The second or standby output remains on regardless.

These units feature a unique band gap reference which allows the SG7900A series to be specified with an output voltage tolerance of ±1.5%. The SG7900A versions also offer much improved line regulation characteristics. All protective features of thermal shutdown, current limiting, and safe-area control have been designed into these units and since these regulators require only a single output capacitor (SG7900 series) or a capacitor and 5mA minimum load (SG120 series) for satisfactory performance, ease of application is assured. Although designed as fixed-voltage regulators, the output voltage can be increased through the use of a simple voltage divider. The low quiescent drain current of the device insures good regulation when this method is used, especially for the SG120 series. These devices are available in hermetically sealed TO-257, TO-3, TO-39 and LCC package.

The SG120 series is a type of negative voltage regulator that offers self-contained, fixed-voltage capability with up to 1.5A of load current. It comes with a variety of output voltages and four package options, making it an ideal complement to the SG7800A/7800/120 line of three-terminal regulators. All protective features such as thermal shutdown, current limiting, and safe-area control have been incorporated into these units. These regulators require only a single output capacitor or a capacitor and a minimum load of 5mA for satisfactory performance, ensuring ease of application. Although designed as fixed-voltage regulators, the output voltage can be increased using a simple voltage divider. The low quiescent drain current of the device ensures good regulation when this method is used, especially for the SG120 series. By utilizing an improved Bandgap reference design, issues commonly associated with zener diode references, such as output voltage drift and significant changes in line and load regulation, have been eliminated. These devices are available in TO-257 (hermetically sealed TO-220), both isolated and non-isolated, as well as TO-3, TO-39, and TO-66 power packages.

The LX8580 is a high-performance, very low dropout voltage regulator, designed for use with advanced microprocessors. This product can be used with separate voltage supplies for the control and power sections, allowing a power section dropout voltage as low as 100mV. The LX8580 can also be used in a single voltage supply configuration, with a dropout performance similar to that of the LX8584 (1.3V at 7A). The LX8580 is supplied in a five-terminal TO-220 package.

LX1681/1682 are monolithic pulse-width modulator controller ICs, designed to implement a flexible, low cost buck (step-down) regulator supply with minimum external components. The LX1681 is a non-synchronous controller; the LX1682 has a synchronous driver for higher efficiency. The output voltage is adjustable by means of a resistor divider to set the voltage between 1.25V and 4.5V. Short-circuit current limiting can be implemented without expensive current sense resistors. Current is sensed using the voltage drop across the RDS(ON) of the MOSFET — sensing is delayed for 1µs to eliminate MOSFET ringing errors. Hiccup-mode fault protection reduces average power to the power elements during short-circuit conditions. Switching frequency is fixed at 200kHz for optimal cost and space. Under-voltage lockout and soft-start for optimal start-up performance. The LX1681/82 can be disabled by pulling the soft-start pin to ground. Small 8-pin SOIC packaging reduces board space. Optimized for 5V-to-3.3V or 5V-to-2.5V conversion, the LX1681/82 can also be used for other voltage conversions.

The SG1842/SG1843 series is an offline power controller product with features such as low start-up current, automatic feed forward compensation, trimmed oscillator discharge current, pulse-by-pulse current limiting, etc.

LX157xCM/xCDM/xIM/xIDM/xMY series power controller is a secondary-side regulator for isolated auxiliary or secondary power supplies. The series has the advantages of low cost, low saturation voltage of switching devices, low peak current stress on the primary switch, high operating frequency, small output inductor, etc. The series is widely used in multiple output non-isolated switching power supplies, such as desktop computers, as well as telecommunications applications.

SG1524/SG2524/SG3524 is a switching power supply controller from LINFINITY Microelectronics Inc., with 8V to 40V operation range, 5V reference, 0.4% reference line and load regulation, < ± 1% reference temperature coefficient, 100Hz to 300KHz oscillator range, excellent external sync capability, dual 50mA output transistors, current limit circuitry, complete PWM power control circuitry, single ended or push-pull outputs, total supply current less than 10mA.
