MAXIM MAX8553/8554 Manual(1)

The MAX8553/MAX8554 are Maxim’s synchronous step-down controllers for DDR memory power management. The MAX8553 generates 1/2 VREFIN voltage for VTT and VTTR. The VTT and VTTR tracking voltages are maintained within 1% of 1/2 VREFIN. The MAX8554 is a 4.5V to 28V input voltage, nontracking step-down controller with a low 0.6V feedback threshold voltage. The MAX8553/MAX8554 use Maxim’s proprietary Quick-PWM™ architecture for fast transient response and operate with selectable pseudo-fixed frequencies. Both controllers can operate without an external bias supply. The controllers operate in synchronous-rectification mode to ensure balanced current sourcing and sinking capacity of up to 25A. The MAX8553/MAX8554 also provide up to 95% efficiency, making them ideal for server and point-of-load applications. Additionally, a low 5µA shutdown current allows for longer battery life in notebook applications. Lossless current monitoring is achieved by monitoring the low-side MOSFET’s drain-to-source voltage. The MAX8553/MAX8554 have an adjustable foldback current limit to withstand a continuous output overload and short circuit. Digital soft-start provides control of inrush current during power-up. Overvoltage protection shuts the converter down and discharges the output capacitor. The MAX8553/MAX8554 come in space-saving 16-pin QSOP packages.

MAXIM MAX256 Manual

The MAX256 is an integrated primary-side controller and H-bridge driver for isolated power-supply circuits. The device contains an on-board oscillator, protection circuitry and internal FET drivers to provide up to 3W of power to the primary winding of a transformer. The MAX256 can be operated using the internal program- mable oscillator or can be driven by an external clock for improved EMI performance. Regardless of the clock source being used, an internal flip-flop stage guaran- tees a fixed 50% duty cycle to prevent DC current flow in the transformer. The MAX256 operates from a single-supply voltage of +5V or +3.3V, and includes undervoltage lockout for controlled startup. The device prevents cross-conduc- tion of the H-bridge MOSFETs by implementing break- before-make switching. Thermal shutdown circuitry provides additional protection against damage due to overtemperature conditions. The MAX256 is available in the 8-pin thermally-enhanced SO package. The device is specified for the automotive (-40°C to +125°C) temperature range.

MAXIM MAX3349EA Multiplexing Mode Manual

The MAX3349EA is a USB transceiver from Texas Instruments that provides a full-speed USB interface to a lower voltage microprocessor or ASIC. The device supports enumeration, suspend, and VBUS detection. MAX3349EA features a special UART multiplexing mode that routes external UART signals (Rx and Tx) to D+ and D-, allowing the use of a shared connector to reduce cost and part count for mobile devices. The UART interface allows mobile devices such as PDAs, cellular phones, and digital cameras to use either UART or USB signaling through the same connector. The MAX3349EA features a separate UART voltage supply input to support legacy devices using +2.75V signaling. The MAX3349EA supports a maximum UART baud rate of 921kbaud. Upon connection to a USB host, the MAX3349EA enters USB mode and provides a full-speed USB 2.0 compliant interface through VP, VM, RCV, and OE. The MAX3349EA features internal series termination resistors on D+ and D-, and an internal 1.5kΩ pullup resistor to D+ to allow the device to logically connect and disconnect from the USB while plugged in. A suspend mode is provided for low-power operation. D+ and D- are protected from electrostatic discharge (ESD) up to ±15kV. The MAX3349EA is available in 16-pin TQFN (4mm x 4mm) and 16-bump UCSP™ (2mm x 2mm) packages, and is specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.

The MAX3318E/MAX3319E achieve a 1µA supply current using Maxim's revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus feature. These devices automatically enter a low-power shutdown mode when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the transmitters of the connected peripherals are inactive for more than 30 seconds. They turn on again when they sense a valid transition at any transmitter or receiver input. AutoShutdown Plus saves power without changes to the existing BIOS or operating system. The MAX3317E also features a 1µA shutdown mode that can be entered by driving SHDN low.
