AN2912 Using the CLC in Real-Time Applications

This application note introduces the Configurable Logic Cell (CLC) and its use in real-time applications. CLC is a flexible peripheral that allows PIC® microcontrollers to create on-chip custom logic functions. It allows users to specify a combination of signals as inputs to a logic function and also allows logic outputs to be sent to other peripherals or I/O pins. It can be configured with various basic logic functions such as logic gates, latches and flip-flops. CLC is a Core Independent Peripheral (CIP), which means that once configured, it can perform its task without code or CPU supervision. It works independently and is not limited by the speed of the PIC microcontroller CPU. This not only shortens the response time of the system, but also shortens the software development time, as some functions are usually done by code rather than hardware. CLC can be used to compile custom logic functions and can also be internally connected to other peripherals such as timers, PWM, serial ports and I/O pins, making it very easy to customize hardware.
