NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR DAC101C081/ DAC101C085 10-Bit Micro Power Digital-to-Analog Converter handbook

The DAC101C081 is a 10-bit, single channel, voltage-output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that operates from a +2.7V to 5.5V supply. It has a rail-to-rail output swing and a settling time of 6µs. The DAC101C081 uses the supply voltage as the reference to provide the widest dynamic output range and typically consumes 132µA while operating at 5.0V. It is available in 6-lead TSOT and LLP packages and provides three address options (pin selectable). As an alternative, the DAC101C085 provides nine I2C addressing options and uses an external reference. It has the same performance and settling time as the DAC101C081 and is available in an 8-lead MSOP package. The DAC101C081 and DAC101C085 use a 2-wire, I2C-compatible serial interface that operates in all three speed modes, including high speed mode (3.4MHz). An external address selection pin allows up to three DAC101C081 or nine DAC101C085 devices per 2-wire bus. Pin compatible alternatives to the DAC101C081 are available that provide additional address options. The DAC101C081 and DAC101C085 each have a 16-bit register that controls the mode of operation, the power-down condition, and the output voltage. A power-on reset circuit ensures that the DAC output powers up to zero volts. A power-down feature reduces power consumption to less than a microWatt. Their low power consumption makes them ideal for power-limited applications.

It provides up to 600mA load current, over the entire input voltage range. There are several different fixed voltage output options avail- able as well as an adjustable output voltage version range from 1.1V to 3.3V. The device offers superior features and performance for mo- bile phones and similar portable systems. Automatic intelli- gent switching between PWM low-noise and PFM low-current mode offers improved system control. During PWM mode, the device operates at a fixed-frequency of 2 MHz (typ.). Hys- teretic PFM mode extends the battery life by reducing the quiescent current to 16 µA (typ.) during light load and standby operation. Internal synchronous rectification provides high ef- ficiency during PWM mode operation. In shutdown mode, the device turns off and reduces battery consumption to 0.01 µA (typ.). The LM3671 is available in SOT23-5, tiny 5-bump micro SMD and a 6-pin LLP packages in leaded (PB) and lead-free (NO PB) versions. A high switching frequency of 2 MHz (typ.) al- lows use of tiny surface-mount components. Only three ex- ternal surface-mount components, an inductor and two ceramic capacitors, are required.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR LP3950 Color LED Driver with Audio Synchronizer Manual

The LP3950 is a color LED driver with a built-in audio synchronization feature for any analog audio input such as polyphonic ring tones and MP3 music. LEDs can be synchronized to an audio signal with two methods - amplitude and frequency. Also several fine tuning options are available for differentiation purposes. The chip also has an unique AGC (Automatic Gain Control) feature which tracks the input signal level and automatically adjusts the gain to an optimal value. The LP3950 has a high efficiency magnetic DC/DC converter with programmable output voltage and switching frequency. The converter has high output current capability so it is also able to drive flash LEDs in camera phone applications. The LP3950 is similar to LP3933 and LP3936 in that the color LEDs (or RGB LEDs) can also be programmed to generate light patterns (programmable color, intensity, on/off timing, slope and blinking cycle). All functions are software controllable through a SPI or I2C compatible interface but the device also supports one pin control for enabling predefined (default) audio synchronization mode.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR LM3500 Synchronous Step-up DC/DC Converter for White LED Applications handbook

The LM3500 is a fixed-frequency step-up DC/DC converter that is ideal for driving white LEDs for display backlighting and other lighting functions. This device features fully integrated synchronous switching (no external Schottky diode required) and a low feedback voltage (500mV), making it highly efficient for lighting applications in wireless phones and other portable products (single cell Li-Ion or 3-cell NiMH battery supplies). The LM3500 operates with a fixed 1MHz switching frequency. When used with ceramic input and output capacitors, the LM3500 provides a small, low-noise, low-cost solution. Two LM3500 options are available with different output voltage capabilities. The LM3500-21 has a maximum output voltage of 21V and is typically suited for driving 4 or 5 white LEDs in series. The LM3500-16 has a maximum output voltage of 16V and is typically suited for driving 3 or 4 white LEDs in series (maximum number of series LEDs dependent on LED forward voltage). If the primary white LED network should be disconnected, the LM3500 uses internal protection circuitry on the output to prevent a destructive over-voltage event. A single external resistor is used to set the maximum LED current in LED-drive applications. The LED current can easily be adjusted using a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal on the shutdown pin. In shutdown, the LM3500 completely disconnects the LED power supply to prevent LED damage.

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR LP3943 RGB/White/Blue 16-LED Fun Light Driver handbook

LP3943 is an integrated device capable of independently driving 16 LEDs. This device also contains an internal precision oscillator that provides all the necessary timing required for driving each LED. Two prescaler registers along with two PWM registers provide a versatile duty cycle control. The LP3943 contains the ability to dim LEDs in SMBUS/I2C applications where it is required to cut down on bus traffic. Traditionally, to dim LEDs using a serial shift register such as 74LS594/5 would require a large amount of traffic to be on the serial bus. LP3943 instead requires only the setup of the frequency and duty cycle for each output pin. From then on, only a single command from the host is required to turn each individual open drain output ON, OFF, or to cycle a programmed frequency and duty cycle. Maximum output sink current is 25 mA per pin and 200 mA per package. Any ports not used for controlling the LEDs can be used for general purpose input/output expansion.
