The Best Way to Get Involved in Your Child's School
The Durham District School Board encourages parents to participate in the School Community Councils (SCCs) to improve the learning environment for students. The SCCs are made up of interested parents, school staff, and community members who collaborate with the principal to provide support for students. SCCs meet at least four times per school year, and many SCCs meet more frequently. SCCs can provide advice to the principal and school board on matters such as student achievement, student behavior codes, board policies (e.g., playground equipment), and the expenditure of fundraising proceeds.
