Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar (EMB) Instructions

Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar (EMB) is a culture medium used to isolate Gram-negative intestinal bacteria, especially Escherichia coli and fecal coliforms. Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar contains protein, potassium phosphate, lactose, agar powder, and indicators as raw materials. The usage of Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar is to pretreat the sample according to GB standard and then inoculate the culture medium. After 36±1℃, 18-24 hours cultivation, observe the results. Eosin-Methylene Blue Agar's test results are that Escherichia coli grows well, with black colonies with metallic luster; Salmonella typhimurium grows well, with colorless and semi-transparent colonies; and Staphylococcus aureus grows inhibited.
